Fonzie of the Week #1: President Barack Obama

obamaIt should come as no surprise that the inaugural “Fonzie of the Week” award goes to President Barack Obama. And that’s really saying something because I just started this blog, have absolutely zero readers, and pretty much anything I do here should be a surprise right now. It’s a testament to just how damned cool this guy is. As the first-ever Fonzie of the Week, he’s setting the bar high, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I like to say that Three Little Fonzies has been keeping it cool since 2009, but Mr. Obama has been keeping it cool since birth as far as I can tell. Let’s check the facts:

Barack Obama is the first black President of the United States. That’s obviously extra-special cool.

Barack Obama wants to provide universal health care to all Americans. Extraordinarily cool, even if a bunch of jackasses who think health care should be a for-profit industry want you to believe otherwise.

Barack Obama smokes. And yes, that’s definitely cool. It’ll kill you and it makes you stink, but there’s a reason millions pick up the habit each year and that’s because there’s something undeniably cool about having a cigarette in your hands. I’m not saying it’s a good idea, mind you, but facts are facts. Blame it on all those suave-lookin’ classic movie stars if you must.

Barack Obama is trying to stop smoking. Yes, he’s playing both sides of this one, and I gladly give him credit for it. Cool for smoking, cool for knowing he should quit and setting a good example. Well played, Mr. President.

Two Words: Beer Summit. A week ago, that wasn’t even a real thing, and now they’re talking about it on Meet the Press. One could take issue with the President’s choice of Bud Light (no Chicago microbrew?), but that’s easily overlooked. I personally look forward to seeing July 30th become a ritual holiday for beer drinkers all over this great nation of ours. It’s Miller Time!

Don’t Just Take My Word For It…

Much as I am loathe to admit it, I’m not the first to notice the President’s steadfast dedication to keeping it cool. In fact, the good people over at Saturday Night Live beat me to the punch with a sketch (shown at right) that aptly illustrates Mr. Obama’s ability to remain cool in tough situations. The sketch plays this fact for laughs, but it’s absolute truth masquerading as comedy, and I applaud them for producing it.

Congratulations, Mr. Obama. I hope you are half as proud to call yourself Fonzie of the Week as I am to call you President. Keep it cool, man.
